SEIA’s Virtual Solar & Storage Codes & Standards Symposium provides an industry-wide, in-depth review of the market requirements and regulations that impact solar and storage installations.
Description
SEIA’s Virtual Solar & Storage Codes & Standards Symposium provides an industry-wide, in-depth review of the market requirements and regulations that impact solar and storage installations. During these virtual sessions, you’ll learn what’s on the horizon for the next generation of solar and storage codes and standards, shaping the future of regulations.
SEIA and the respected experts from the industry, Authorities Having Jurisdictions, testing laboratories, certification organizations, and market development will provide insights into a wide range of areas affecting product design, market rules and regulations, and engineering discipline approaches.
These topics include new and upcoming changes to solar and storage-related codes and standards. The areas covered will include:
Building, fire, energy conservation, and structural codes
Electrical codes and energy storage standards
Equipment product safety, testing, and certification standards
Installation and technician training standards
Traceability and consumer protection standards
Power generation and resilience
Interconnection
Cybersecurity
Virtual power plants and microgrids
As designers, engineers, marketers, and policy professionals, staying informed of these developments is critical to giving your company a competitive advantage in a crowded marketplace. If you are in solar and storage research & development, design, engineering, product safety and testing, installation, business development, or marketing, an Authority Having Jurisdiction or government professional or anyone whose responsibilities are affected by the changing nature of codes and standards, this symposium is for you!
Original Air Date: May 29, 2025
Agenda
Module 4- Power Generation
In many jurisdictions across the US, solar PV systems seeking permission to operate have to satisfy an increasingly complex set of requirements to support the security and reliability of the electric grid. SEIA Director of Codes and Standards for Energy Storage Charles Picard will facilitate a discussion about requirements for distributed energy resources, including smart inverter provisions in the IEEE 1547 standard, safeguards against cybersecurity risks, and guidelines for systems operating as virtual power plants or microgrids.
- IEEE 1547-2018
- Interconnection Standards
- Cybersecurity
- Virtual Powerplants and Microgrids
Module 5- Energy Storage
As a complement to our discussion on codes and standards for power generation, we next turn our attention to energy storage systems. This session will highlight key issues in the building codes, fire codes, structural codes, and International Codes with special attention given to the NFPA 855 large-scale fire testing requirements, the CSA/ANSI C22.2 requirements for battery management systems, seismic certification, local siting and zoning, and community resilience.
-
- Electrical Code/Energy Storage Codes
- NFPA 855/ Large Sale Fire Testing
- CSA/ANSI C800:25- Testing Protocol for Energy Storage System Reliability and Quality Assurance Program
- CSA/ANSI C22.2 No.350:25- Test Method for Safety and Performance of Thermal Barriers for Use in Batteries and Battery-based Energy Storage Systems
- Seismic Certification of ESS
- ESS Project Siting, Zoning Local Ordinances
- ESS Community Resilience
