Background

Upcoming National Solar and Storage Standards:

As an American National Standards Institute-accredited standards developer, SEIA convenes various stakeholders to develop standards that proactively and responsibly manage the industry’s growth. SEIA is currently developing 11 industry standards, including standards on solar and energy storage supply chain traceability, sales, installation, and decommissioning. The new standards are designed to ensure ethical supply chains and solar sales practices, and to raise the bar for safety and durability of rooftop solar and storage installations. The information on the new standards will likely be of interest to community colleges, helping to inform their programming to prepare workers for the solar and storage industry.

National Guidelines for Apprenticeship Standards for Electrician

With support from the U.S. Dept. of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office, the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA), Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), and SEIA are convening solar industry stakeholders to develop National Guidelines for Apprenticeship Standards (NGS) for occupations of interest to the solar industry. We have already developed and received Dept. of Labor certification for our NGS for Construction Craft Laborer, and we are in the process of developing NGS for Electricians working at solar companies. NGS are templates for apprenticeship programs that seek to be certified by the U.S. Dept. of Labor and then can be utilized by companies and organizations to more easily launch new Registered Apprenticeship programs. SEIA and our partners aim to support the expansion of high-quality Registered Apprenticeship programs in the solar industry in a way that benefits both companies and workers.
